Woodruff Keys
You need to be logged in to see prices.Woodruff Keys are sometimes referred to by various other names depending on their application. Common alternatives include crank keys, crankshaft keys, harmonic damper keys, key damper retainers, and harmonic balancer retainer keys. No matter which term you prefer, they all describe the familiar semi-circular key used for securing rotating components to shafts. They are a very popular engineering key, mainly used for light duty applications.
Woodruff keys are designed as semicircular metal pieces. These keys slot neatly into a matching recess in a shaft, locking rotating parts like gears or pulleys securely in place, preventing them from spinning independently of one another.
• Prevents Slippage: By forming a snug interference fit between the shaft and the mating component, Woodruff keys keep things from spinning freely or slipping out of alignment when under load.• Efficient Power Transmission: Maintaining proper alignment means the power coming from your motor, engine, or drive train gets delivered smoothly and efficiently. This also minimizes wear on machinery.
• Easy Assembly and Removal: Their unique shape allows for straightforward installation and removal, which is a huge plus during maintenance or repairs.
• No Extra Fasteners Needed: Because the key fits perfectly into the keyway and mating slot, there’s no need for additional nuts, bolts, or screws.
