Slotted Spring Pins
Spring pins, sometimes referred to as rolled pins or tension pins, are a self-locking fastener designed to use tension to hold two or more components securely together. Constructed as a small hollow steel tube—lacking a head, but featuring chamfered or rounded ends—the pin is intentionally manufactured slightly larger than the hole it will occupy. When inserted, the sprung steel walls compress, exerting outward pressure against the hole and thereby gripping both the pin and the components in place.
Slotted Spring Pins are formed by rolling steel strip to form a slotted cylinder and are produced accurately to a free diameter slightly larger than the receiving hole with one or both ends being chamfered. Larger diameter Slotted Spring Pins may only have one end chamfered.
The Slotted Spring Pin is a low cost, highly versatile component which has simplified many assembly and manufacturing processes.
Originally manufactured according to DIN 1481 (heavy duty) and DIN 7346 (light duty), which has been superseded by ISO 8752 and ISO 13337 respectively, with inch sizes generally confirming to ANSI B18.8.2.
